Consulting with the Public

Yorkshire Forward and Langtree Artisan first unveiled details of the New Victoria Place scheme for a week long consultation in October 2008.

Approximately 150 Bradfordians attended the first New Victoria Place public exhibition to share their views about the scheme.

Martin Mellor, from Langtree Artisan, said:

“ The majority of those who attended the public exhibition thought that the scheme was a progressive step forward for Bradford city centre, supported the redevelopment of the Bradford Odeon site, and were very excited about what New Victoria Place will bring to the city, particularly the huge job creation, public realm and retail opportunities.”

“ The idea that New Victoria Place will provide a gateway from the educational quarter and link into City Park project was also warmly received.”

We asked visitors what facilities they felt were important to Bradford and what they wanted to see included in the scheme:

  • 82% said they want to see public performance space - the scheme has been remodelled to create a series of interesting and flexible spaces that can be used as external performance spaces.
  • Similarly, 82% of respondents confirmed there was a need for restaurants - New Victoria Place will include a number of cafes, bars and restaurants at ground floor level to deliver vibrant outdoor space.
  • 75% of respondents want to see an open public realm - New Victoria Place has evolved to now include an additional 3000 sq ft of public realm space - the equivalent of 8 tennis courts.
  • 62% of respondents want to see office space – the scheme will be one of the first buildings in Bradford to achieve a BREEAM rating of Excellent.
