Welcome to the
New Victoria Place Exhibition

Following submission of the New Victoria Place planning application in October 2008, the application has been subject to consultation with members of the public and statutory consultees.

In response to this statutory process and the matters raised by key consultees, revisions have been made to the scheme to take on board comments made.

Today, we are unveiling the revised scheme for New Victoria Place which will be submitted as part of the full planning application and application for conservation area consent to demolish the former Odeon Cinema.

Site History

  • The New Victoria Theatre was constructed in 1930 on the site of a former brewery, it closed in 1968 after a period of audience decline
  • In 1969 it reopened following its conversion into smaller cinemas and a bingo hall
  • The Top Rank Bingo Hall ceased operation in summer 1997 and eventually the Odeon closed in June 2000, as it was no longer financially viable
  • The building lay empty for two years and was then purchased by Yorkshire Forward in 2002 in a bid to help kick start regeneration in Bradford
  • The Odeon site was identified as a key site within the City Masterplan in 2003 and forms an important part of the regeneration implementation plan for Bradford
  • In February 2005, Bradford Centre Regeneration launched a designer/developer competition for the development of the site of the former Odeon Cinema and car park and 2-16 Great Horton Road
  • In September 2008 the initial masterplan to regenerate the site and deliver the New Victoria Place scheme was unveiled
  • The New Victoria Place planning application was submitted in October 2008 by Langtree Artisan and Yorkshire Forward
  • Today, following active consultation with statutory consultees including English Heritage and DCMS, Langtree Artisan and Yorkshire Forward are presenting the enhanced scheme.
